We’ll ask our partners and publishers in the Silicon Valley to pardon us in advance, but forget San Francisco. South Florida is where it’s at for tech companies.

It’s also where we’re at, and the Playwire team is so proud to be a part of the emerging south Florida tech scene. After recent media reports and opinion pieces pointing out the tech progress centering on Miami and all of south Florida, what we have known for a long time is coming to light for a lot more people. And we’re here for it.

Miami Anchors the South Florida Tech Boom

Miami has been the epicenter of much of the tech progress south Florida is just starting to get some recognition for. This is thanks in large part to efforts by Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, who started his efforts to attract top tech giants to the Miami area on Twitter.

Venture capitalist Delian Asparouhov tweeted what might have amounted to nothing much: “ok guys hear me out, what if we move silicon valley to Miami.” And Mayor Suarez replied, quite simply, “How can I help?”

The exchange went viral, garnering 2.3 million impressions, thousands of likes and hundreds of comments. Since then, Mayor Suarez has been speaking to top tech executives — with Tesla’s Elon Musk, Palantir’s Peter Thiel and Twitter’s Jack Dorsey among them — about coming to south Florida.

Why South Florida is a Great Place for Tech Companies

But there’s more to Florida than Miami. Many of the pro-Florida talking points Mayor Suarez is ostensibly using with tech companies apply not just in Miami but across south Florida and Florida in general. Florida has no state income tax, a business-friendly environment and a wealth of highly motivated and talented professionals ready to make an impact.

The recent notoriety Miami and south Florida have gained as a tech hub is great, but it isn’t a short-lived phenomenon. South Florida is enjoying returns on the steady investment in the tech sector that the state has been nurturing for decades. According to the nonprofit Tech Hub South Florida, tech jobs in south Florida have grown by 26% over the last decade. At the beginning of 2012, south Florida employed 62,425 tech workers. At the end of 2020, that figure had jumped to 77,840 with consistent year-over-year growth.

The south Florida tech industry as a whole is clearly booming. Tech industry employees are reaping the rewards, too. South Florida’s tech workers’ earnings have grown by 13.3% in the past five years, and the south Florida tech industry workforce is twice as diverse as the U.S. tech industry overall. This type of growth-focused environment creates a business- and worker-friendly region that’s perfect for the tech industry.

We’ve Been Here a While, and We’re Here to Stay

Although there will be plenty of newcomers to the scene in the coming years, Playwire won’t be one of them. Playwire has been around since 2007, and we have been calling south Florida home for years. We’ve seen what south Florida has to offer our industry. In our time here, we’ve seen explosive growth within our company. We have opened offices in other parts of the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia, and we have gone from being an ad network for video games to being the revenue amplification platform of choice for top publishers in countless verticals.

Throughout all that growth and change, our heart has always been here in south Florida. We’re proud of our home for its newfound reputation as a tech hub, and we’re proud to have contributed to that achievement. We plan to stick around as south Florida’s tech-forward reputation grows even stronger, contributing in any way we can — by bringing top ad tech talent to the area, paying competitive wages, innovating for publishers and remaining a leader in the global ad tech industry.

In South Florida and Around the World, Playwire is for Publishers

The team at Playwire is nothing short of thrilled that our headquarters is in the heart of the south Florida tech hub. We have worked hard for years to position ourselves as ad tech partners for publishers who want to be on the cutting edge. We’re happy to see that this effort has not only yielded great results for our publishers, but contributed to south Florida’s emergence on the international tech scene.

This is just one more sign among many that the future is bright for south Florida tech companies like Playwire and those who partner with them. We’re looking forward to even more great days ahead.
