Adding Google AdSense to a WordPress Site

There are a few different ways to add AdSense code to your site. But Google recommends you use a stellar WordPress plugin called Site Kit.

Why the starry-eyed rec? —

  • It’s free to use.
  • It’s open-source.
  • It provides access to unified insights and performance metrics from a wide range of Google products beyond AdSense, including Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and PageSpeed Insights.
  • It connects your AdSense account to your WordPress website.
  • It puts the relevant AdSense code on your website pages.

Essentially: this is the plugin you’re looking for. It’ll make the connection process a lot simpler, so you can automatically begin displaying Google ads among your content.

How to Use Site Kit to Add to Your WordPress Website

With the Force, everything is inherently connected. Your WordPress website is a different story. Connecting everything on your own will require some elbow grease and a steep learning curve (unless you’ve got us on your side, that is).

Luckily, Site Kit is designed to make the process as simple as possible.

To connect AdSense to your WordPress site using Site Kit, follow these steps —

  1. Access the plugins menu from your WordPress dashboard.
  2. In the search bar, type “Site Kit” and find the right Google plugin.
  3. Install the Site Kit, then activate it once the installation is complete.
  4. Select “Start Setup” and complete the process.
  5. Once Site Kit is set up, locate “Connect Service” in the AdSense section, which can be found in either “Settings” or the plugin dashboard.
  6. At this point, Site Kit will outline the steps to connect. You should enable automatic AdSense code placement so that AdSense can add the relevant ad code to web pages on both AMP and non-AMP website versions.
  7. Once completed, confirm that the Auto ads feature is active in AdSense. You’ll have to complete this manually since Site Kit cannot adjust any settings in your AdSense account.

Once you connect AdSense to your WordPress site, you’ll be able to display ads and review your metrics from the “AdSense” section of the Site Kit plugin.

See? It’s so easy, even Jar Jar Binks could do it.
